Happy SIX Year Anniversary Babe!

22 Jan

Scott,
Six years ago today we started dating and I could not have imagined back then all that would be in store for us. These last six years have been the best years of my life. We have shared so many wonderful memories and I have enjoyed every second of being your girlfriend. We have had our share of ups and downs but we always manage to come out on top. You have taught me so much and you push me to be the best person I can be every single day. I absolutely adore you and feel so lucky to have found you. I am so blessed God put you in my life and I can’t wait to see what our future holds. As long as I have you by my side, I know it is going to be amazing.
Love you forever & Always,
Lisa

Teacher Crafts

13 Jan
All of break I had been planning on painting canvases for my two cooperating teachers that they could put in their classrooms.  I finally had time to make them this last week and decided I would give them to my teachers as belated Christmas presents. I used the following two pictures as inspiration…

canvas #1
canvas #2
To make the first one I needed:
-white, red, and black paint
-canvas
-paint brushes
-black ribbon
-hot glue gun

I started out by first painting the canvas black…

…then carefully tried to copy all of the letters…

…and finally I created a stencil for the mask, traced it on to the canvas, and painted it red

to finish it off I added a bow in the corner 🙂

For canvas #2 I needed:
-white, grey, light green, and turquoise paint
-canvas
-paintbrushes
-green ribbon
-hot glue gun

I first painted the entire canvas turquoise and after it dried I added the white chevron stripes (I was going for the imperfect look so I just painted them freehand, but if you wanted them to be perfectly straight, you could always trace them beforehand with a pencil)

next, I painted the words and decided painting an apple would be a nice little touch!
I also added a bow to this one to give it that finishing touch!

Whenever I paint a canvas like these I always try and find something to copy it off of. It makes it SO much easier, especially if you have a font to look at when painting words. I am very happy with how they turned out and can’t wait to give them to my teachers on Monday!

Favorite Christmas Present

12 Jan
One of my favorite presents that I received for Christmas this year is my new monogrammed lunch box!
I know it sounds stupid, but last semester when I was student teaching, I had to bring my lunch in a plastic grocery bag — so this is a big improvement! I absolutely love it and can’t wait to use it everyday!
I came across this lunch box on Etsy at rougeandco.  They have lots of adorable prints, colors, and fonts to choose from! Would make a great gift for students or teachers you might know 🙂

My very own Jewelry Board!

10 Jan
After making a jewelry board as a Christmas gift I finally had tihe time to make my very own! This is how it turned out…what do ya think!?

I love the grey and white chevron pattern and absolutely adore the frame — and I got them both from Hobby Lobby. To see step by step instructions of how to make one, go to my previous blog post DIY Jewelry Board.
They are SUPER easy to make and really cute if I do say so myself 🙂 Some other boards I found on Pinterest that I really like are pictured below…

Jewelry Organization-I have a 3-tier porcelain server and it looks great with my jewelry in it. It is also fun for keys, change, cell phones, Ipod, etc...I will make the cool frame w/fabric, over a bulletin board or cork squares, then add cup hooks and put it behind a vintage frame. I've seen several cool frames at the Brass Armadillo-My happy place :)
Hopefully this will inspire you to go out and make your own!! Good luck! 🙂

30 Years & Still Going Strong

10 Jan
“Love bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things, endures all things. Love never ends.” – Corinthians 13:7-8

Yesterday was a very special day in my house – it was my mom and dad’s 30th wedding anniversary! My parents marriage has been one of the greatest gifts in my life. They have taught me how to truly love another unconditionally and how to create a loving and lasting marriage.

With each year that has passed I believe my parents have fallen more and more in love with each other. They are truly best friends and enjoy spending time together. Whether it is playing tennis, watching sports, or just going on a walk around the neighborhood, they always have the best time when they are together. Growing up, I always saw my parents affection towards each other and constantly heard them saying “I love you.” It wasn’t until I was older that I learned to appreciate this and was able to see just how great their relationship really is.
My mom and dad have been the greatest example I could ask for. I hope that one day I can have a marriage just as amazing as theirs. They have taught me compassion, forgiveness, perseverance, and the importance of trust and communication. I am so unbelievably thankful for them and proud to be their daughter.
“The greatest thing a father can do for his daughter is to love her mother.”
Happy 30th wedding anniversary, mom & dad! I love you both very much.

The Sister’s Room Makeover

8 Jan
My sister just recently moved in to a new house with two of her friends. Since she knows how much I love decorating she asked for my help and I of course said yes! She already had the bed and several furniture pieces so we only bought a couple of things — but looking at it all together it turned out really nice!
white comforter: TJ Maxx
decorative pillow: TJ Maxx
brown blanket: TJ Maxx
tan pillows: Target

“live, laugh, love” sign: Hobby Lobby

lamp: Target
brown 5×7 frame: Hobby Lobby
candle: Hobby Lobby

candles & candle holders: Hobby Lobby
cream 3×5 picture frame: Hobby Lobby

Even though Kelly already had a lot of the big furniture pieces, the decorations add the perfect touch! 🙂

Sugar Bowl Champs!

7 Jan
Late Thursday night I arrived home from New Orleans and what a trip it was! WE WON!! The University of Louisville’s football team won the Sugar Bowl! Even though we were the underdogs in this game against Florida, we ended up winning 33-23. From start to finish, it was one of the most exciting games I have ever seen! So proud of this team, our city, and most importantly Scott 🙂
We arrived in New Orleans (or as Louisville fans liked to refer to it as “LouOrleans”) on Sunday, December 30th and enjoyed sightseeing and of course the infamous Bourbon Street. I had never been to this city before, but it sure was a lot of fun!

On New Years Eve the team had curfew at 10:30 but I was able to see my love for a little bit before he had to be on lock down.

Bourbon Street was insane, especially with all of the red and black…and people yelling C-A-R-D-S every five seconds 🙂
Before the game, outside of the dome!
Scott looking good in warm-ups
Found my lovely friends Tamara and Perry at the game! GO CARDS!

Right after the game, celebrating our victory!

Scott laying on the field, taking it all in one last time…
After the game, back at the hotel – all of the fans greeting the players!! The whole lobby was PACKED

This game was absolutely incredible! I could not be more proud of the team and all of their hard work and dedication. They definitely deserved this win and I cold not be happier for them. It was bittersweet since it was Scott’s final game, but it was definitely a great game to end on. I was filled with so many emotions – sad to see Scott’s career as a college athlete end after four years, but also excited for him to move on in life and finally have a break from sports after all this time. It has definitely been a fun ride and one I will never forget. Go Cards and go #89! 🙂
